Taking care of your tattoo in the first few weeks is key to how well your ink lasts. A well healed tattoo is crucial. The following information below should help ensure that your tattoo heals beautifully.
Using the right kind of lotion, and in the right amounts, is KEY to a clean heal of your new tattoo! We recommend using pure Shea or Cocoa butter. That being said, these are ingredients we suggest you stay away from no matter what: mineral oil, coconut oil, petroleum/petrolatum, Vaseline, and any sort of fragrance.
For any lotions, less is more! It is far better to apply thinner coats of lotion more frequently, than to smother your tattoo so you don't need to reapply all day.
Lotion helps keep the scab tissue moisturized and pliable, so it doesn't prematurely come off and take your color with it!
Your new tattoo is a wound. Your skin has been poked thousands of times with needles. Think of it as a scrape or abrasion and treat it accordingly. The artist will have wrapped the new tattoo. Don’t remove it for a few hours until your skin has recovered some. Your friends will want to see it, but show them later and leave the wrap on. The wrap is a layer of protection against outside contaminants.
After you get home and a few hours have passed, your skin should be recovered a bit and now you can remove the wrap. Clean your hands with soap before taking off the wrap. It is normal to have serum or plasma secreting from the wounded skin.
Your artist will have applied a layer of A&D to protect the skin beneath the wrap. Gently wash the tattooed area clean. Don’t use anything abrasive to clean your skin!
Now with your clean tattoo, its time to apply a THIN layer of lotion 5+ times a day for a week. On the second week apply 2 - 3 times daily.
- Sunbathing or tanning beds.
- Submerging in hot tubs, baths, and swimming pools (germs, bacteria, chlorine).
- Swimming in natural bodies of water (germs, bacteria, and nasty micro-organisms).
- Scratching or picking.
- Smacking, rubbing, and striking the area (could lead to blow outs/ ink bleed).
The stages of healing will go from soreness and tightness, to a crusty flaking, then finally shedding the top layer of skin. Then you’re done. During this process, do NOT play with it.
I offer a free touch up with in a 3 months time. Any touch ups being done after the 3 months time, will be charged. However, the artists are NOT responsible for correcting damage caused by the mistreatment and\or neglect of the fresh tattoo.
